Metamorphosis
◄ ► Unveiled Existence • Amanda Snavely |
Our true selves are often concealed behind the perceived images of our identities as mother, wife, relative, friend, and artist. Subconsciously, I had developed layers of camouflage to avoid criticism for not conforming to the accepted norms of each role. Moving across the country, I put aside that camouflage. Unfettered by the pull from relatives, social groups, and a conservative town, I shed layers of oppressive ideals. Translucent organza represents the multitude of influences that obscured my artistic identity. Each layer, however, provides hints of the beautiful dimensions that lay beneath the constructed shield.
