Turmoil: Recovering From Trauma

This quilt is a metaphor for the process of recovery after one has experienced trauma. I chose the image of a drain to portray this idea. Fragmentation of the self is shown by the disconnected inner shapes, jagged contrast stitching, and raw-edge appliqué. Harsh colors and patterns transform from the center and gradual recovery of the self is represented by softer colors, connected shapes, and matching threads enclosing the edges of the fabric.
