Judith Trager is an internationally known quilt artist whose work has appeared in many major exhibitions including Quilt National, Art Quilts at the Sedgewick, Crafts National, The Quilted Surface, and the International Quilt Festival. Her vibrant colors and designs are instantly recognizable and can be seen in the many quilts she has hanging in public, corporate, and health care collections. She has also been part of the United States Arts in Embassies Program for the past fifteen years and currently has a quilt in the U.S. embassy in Vientien, Laos.
Born in California in 1942, she began quilting with her mother at age seven. By her twenties, she was making colorful wall hangings, precursors to her now iconic art quilts. Trained as a painter, Judith has always loved fabric and textiles. She was chosen as one of America’s best craftsmen by the Smithsonian Institution in the 1980’s. Upon moving to Colorado in 1985, she began writing quilting articles for Quilters Newsletter Magazine and designing quilts for Quiltmaker magazine.
Judith has taught quilt and surface design classes throughout the world, specializing in design and composition skills. She is also a popular workshop teacher and lecturer and has curated several traveling art quilt exhibitions, including Rooted in Tradition: Art Quilts from the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum and America Celebrates!
