Current computer technology melded with traditional needle arts are employed to express Carol’s vision. The process begins with a photograph she digitally manipulates and then prints on cloth with archival inks. The newly made fabric is pieced and stitched. Yarns, acrylic paint, colored pencil, beads, or metal may be incorporated into the work.
In addition to the larger textiles, Carol creates thread paintings. These intimate and heavily stitched canvases have a surreal quality being made up of both representative photography and layers of thread. Thread is applied freestyle with the sewing machine to build up color across the surface of the fabric. Rayon and other threads are stitched to achieve shading and depth as a painter uses paint and canvas.
Carol’s work has been juried into national exhibitions including Quilt National 2011, Fiberarts International 2007, acquired by private and corporate collections, published in several books and led to her being accepted twice as Artist-in-Residence at National Parks.
